A bad one.
First of all it's April 18th and we have over two feet of snow. Wet, heavy snow. Spring isn't ever going to get here.
I start the day by waking to a horrible smell. Natural gas. Not only that but it's freezing in the house. Got myself and the kids over to a neighbors house to call the gas company. He comes over .. clears my house for safety and figures out my furnace isn't working. Great. No one is going to come out on a day like this to fix my heat.
Kids are excited because there is so much snow so they are constantly running in and out with me screaming SHUT THE DOOR. The more they run in and out the colder it gets in the house. The dog won't go outside because of the snow and so pees on the carpet.
Hayley has had this day planned for a month. It's her friend's bday and they are going to the mall to get nails done and have a shopping spree. I guess they weren't going to let snow get in their way. I had to jump through hoops to get her the allowance money I owed her. I couldn't get my van out of the driveway to go to the ATM to get her the money. Borrowed money from a friend. Problem fixed.
She leaves. I start looking for my brown coach purse. Can't find it. Call Hayley. "Oh I took it because it matched my outfit". SERIOUSLY ... that's MY purse!! At this point I am just in a real pissy mood. Done with the spring snow, done with my feet and hands being cold, done with kids running in and out.
Try to change my attitude. Decide that I should take pictures of the kids playing in the snow as it's so deep and they looked so cute. Look for the camera. Everywhere. Call Hayley. "Oh, I took it with me.". SERIOUSLY... that's MY camera!!
About 30 minutes later Hayley calls to 'remind' me that they need a ride home. REMIND me?? That was NEVER the plan. (besides .. this was her friend's bday .. I wasn't involved in the planning .. no parent talked to me about it). "Well, Tayler's mom dropped us off but said she couldn't pick us up and said to call my mom to do that". SERIOUSLY ... this wasn't MY plan!!
What does this mean? Oh, that I have to go and shovel three feet of wet, heavy stuff from my driveway. 45 minutes later .. smoke is coming from my ears. My hands, back and shoulders aching.
On my way home from this adventure I figure I should stop in at Target and pick up an extra space heater for the cold night ahead. Yeah, no space heaters. Why should they have those .. I mean, it's April 18th after all.
All this may seem petty and not such a -end-of-the-world kind of day but I'm just tired. It would just be nice to say ..
"husband, why don't you go see if you can fix the furnace"...
"husband, why don't you go shovel the driveway"...
"husband, why don't you drive in the snow to go pick the girls up from the mall"...
"husband, why don't you clean up the dog pee on the floor?"
"husband, can you please shoulder some of this burden?" ...
Just worn out and not feeling much like doing this anymore.
What choice do I have though? Push through... the only option really.
I needed to vent .. have a personal pity party.
Excuse me though, I am now going to fall on the floor and throw a tantrum..

You need a break. Send the kids over to my house to play in the snow fort. I promise you won't see them for at least 2 hours. Better hurry though, the sun is out!
You need a vacation, far away for it all...hang in there friend! The sun is out today and hopefully for the whole week:)
No actually, that does sound pretty bad...
Hang in there my friend...better days ahead...that's been my motto through this deployment. When things are bad...I just keep telling myself there's better days ahead. You are doing an amazing job and I wish you were here so I could help support you. You don't know it, but there is no doubt in my mind that you are holding down the homefront and taking care of your kids in a remarkable way. I've had days where I just don't even want to get out of bed...just pull the covers over my head and wish it was all over. Keep pressing on...you can do it! Love ya!
Keep on swimming as Dori on Nemo says! Hang in there it has to get better!
