Eli gets glasses

So I took Eli to the eye doctor and he needed glasses. The script wasn't too bad but it is mostly for reading and a little for far away - he has no-line bifocals. I thought only older people wore those but I guess not.

He has struggled in school since Kindergarten. At the end of last year he was put on the "IEP" program ... individual educational plan. He just can't grasp reading. Usually when a child is put on that program they will identify the specific learning disability. Not so with mr. Eli. He wasn't getting it but they couldn't pin point the problem either. They suggested the eye doc. Found out from the doctor that he has convergence issues. Basically the eyes don't come together to focus on an object as it gets closer. He can't read because the words on the page move. It's not like it's fabulous news ... but at least some part of the mystery is solved and we can work on fixing it.

The doctor gave him glasses as a band aide to start with but he will have to go through what's called Eye Therapy to fix the problem. I think he said it will take about 9 months for Eli to complete. Insurance won't cover it and it's quite costly ... but obviously, it's something I will have to do for the little guy so he can catch up and become more confident in school.

He got to pick them out. They are converse brand and he thinks they are skater glasses. That works. He refuses to wear them unless he is reading which is fine by me. I love seeing him in them ... I think it makes him look 'softer'. I mean, who can be a bully while wearing glasses??

He looks awesome with them Alana! What a stud. 1 out of three kids needing glasses isn't bad for having a Mom that is practically blind. ;) Love ya like a fat kid loves cake.

He looks quite handsome and cool. My grandson had the same problem and the therapy did wonders for him. Glad you got the problem pinpointed!
