a second chance ...

My sister Natalie is 9 years younger than I am. So growing up I really didn't get the full 'sister' experience. The closest we came was me telling her not to touch my barbie because I didn't want her chewing on it. She was always just a little girl .. who lived in the same house. Don't get me wrong, I loved her tons and I remember her making me laugh but it just wasn't like having a sister close to my age.

As fate has it .. I am so blessed, because I got another chance! I moved back here to Colorado and realized she is all grown up now. She is married with one son and another on the way. Isn't it amazing how a 9 year gap can close in an instant. In fact, I remember her as a teenager making fun of me as a mother looking forward to my favorite TV shows ("nobody talk, nobody move, nobody even look at me .. Survivor is on"). She claimed I had no life. Funny how now I know all of her favorites and when she can't watch she will surely Tivo it. The gap in the years has finally closed and I get a true sister in my life.

I love Natalie for so many reasons .. she's been a breath of fresh air for me while living here. She is there when I need her. She is such a rock for me. How is that .. I am the older sister and turn now to her for advice. I know I can call her in a heartbeat and count on her. The best thing about my sister is that she doesn't judge me. She cares enough to listen .. but never telling me what an idiot I am despite the fact that I clearly live the part most days.

Shopping, eating out, hanging out together - it's just been so much fun. Not to mention the cool hand me downs and fashion advice. She makes me feel young and ensures I look the part as well.

Thanks my sister - Natalie Rachel Doxey. I sure love you!!

What a sweet tribute to your sister! She sounds like a great gal.

Um, Hello.......I think I say those same words when Survivor is on......but you probably already knew that! Let me know how lunch goes with Wendi, I wish I could be there.
