Sean's brother and sister in law flew in to Colorado and we rented a house with them in Breckenridge for a few days. The boys haven't ever been skiing or snowboarding and were excited about the adventure. I figured snowboarding would be easy for them because of their sweet skateboarding skills.
The boys ended up absolutely loving it. Going from the bunny slope to the green and by day two they were going down the blue slope like pros. I knew they would catch on pretty quickly ... well, after Eli got over his his frustrations first.
The only injury on the trip was to me. Go figure .. which is why I refuse to put the gear on and go try it .. I'd go home with a broken leg for sure. Eli clipped my shin with his snowboard when he tried it on in the house and decided to do a few tricks. That hurt. Nice shiner turning into an even better bruise the week after.
Hayley and I were having such a GREAT time in our element of snow and cold and misery .. we decided to cut it short. Yeah, we aren't from around here. That's clear. We left at 7pm to drive home. While it was snowing. Hard. Blizzard like conditions. Figure my car's got sweet new tires .. no problem. It took us an hour to go 15 miles. And I thought I was going to die. Couldn't see a foot in front of us. At first Hayley was like "c'mon mom .. it isn't THAT bad. just drive. you're fine .. stop complaining" ... then ... she witnessed an almost full blown panic attack from me ... complete with crying. I kept shouting (yeah, no joke - I was loud) "I CAN'T DO THIS HAYLEY... I CAN'T SEE!!" over and over. Then she'd have to remind me to stop crying and wipe my eyes and use my wipers (so .. that did improve things but not enough to make me stop crying). The first time I suggested we stop at a hotel and just stay the night she acted like I was trying to cut off her arm. After about 30 minutes into the ordeal she was doing her best to help me find a hotel.
We found one. And didn't die. Stayed the night. In a warm king size bed. Never been so grateful for a hotel room stay EVER. As we walk into the hotel lobby ... you would have thought the beverly hillbillies had walked into town. Ugg boots and shorts ... short sleeve shirts ... and sweat jackets. It was negative 2 outside. Like I said .. we don't do snow and apparently we don't even know how to dress for it either. (oh and the next morning .. the car was covered in snow and ice. Ms. preparedness had to use a gladware plastic top to scrape all the white stuff off. I live in Colorado .. why the heck would I invest in an ice scraper? Again .. hillbilly way of doing it)
Everyone made it home eventually. Tired .. worn out .. but happy. Hayley and I happy to be back in 40 degree weather and the boys ecstatic, wanting our next purchase to be snowboards.
I guess we can call it a success.
