On being smart ...

So yeah ... Hayley calls me on my cell the other day (it's clearly super important if she didn't text me) and says this ...

"um, hey mom - seriously did you know that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb?"

me "okay .. where are you going with this? it's not a trick question or a joke right? I'll go with .. the answer is TRUE"

Hayley "Seriously mom. I can't even believe this. I totally thought it was Benjamin Franklin all this time. He didn't ... can you believe that???"

me "again ... okay. So glad that in your 16th year you are discovering this AND you are excited about it"

Hayley "NO MOM .. I'm NOT excited about this. I just freaking did a history paper all about how Benjamin Franklin invented the light bulb."

me (laughing) "so .. do it over nimrod"

Hayley "MOOOOOM! I turned it in LAST week! You do realize he's going to read mine out loud right?"

Oh my gosh. Yup, she's a smart one all right. Nope, you can't have her. She's ALL MINE. That's right .. I get to take ALL the credit for this one.

She tells me later that night "You wish you could be me huh mom?"

Oh yea. I asked Jacob how he deals day after day with this smart-little-almost-soon-to-be-SUPER senior of mine ...

He says

"Well, I have to say when I'm around her it feels like my IQ increases. Love that feeling"

Fabulous way to look at it. In fact, I'm a genius....

Ok, I hate to admit this, but I would have done something similar in High School. I could write a BS paper on any given subject and make up the references, etc. In fact, I once gave a speech on the epidemic of dandruff-- all my stats and "medical" info made up. It's called creativity-- embrace it!
