On Grandmom's zoo

My mom invited us to go to the Cheyenne Mountain zoo last week. She works in Colorado Springs and discovered this cool little zoo.

My sister and my nephews have been but we haven't.

My mom kept talking it up .. and you know when someone talks something up too much it can really be a let down. So was trying to not get my hopes up too high. For one .. I don't do well at zoos ... the focus thing and all.

So we drove down there together and the first exhibit you get to are the Giraffes. SO FREAKING COOL! You are on this platform .. like a deck .. all around them. You can feed them .. and pet them ..close enough to look at their super long eyelashes.

For not being able to focus .. I didn't really wanna leave them. Did you know that a giraffe's tongue can reach into it's ears? Pretty much .. that means it's really long. And purple (apparently so it doesn't get sunburned). I even learned stuff. Tall, gentle .. so cool.

Then we moved on and finished the rest. It's on a mountain (yes .. hence the name) and the weather was perfect ... it wasn't too big .. but all the animals were super close to you. We also got to pet a Wallaby. Know what that is? I didn't either .. a really small kangaroo.

All Jackson wanted was a "Naked Mole" t-shirt and he got his wish.

Oh my other fav exhibit were the monkey's and gorillas. I just can't get enough of those guys. So human .. but not. Fascinating. The lions and tigers .. bears and hippos .. don't really interest me but those monkey's .. I want one.

The kids had a great time. All three. Even Hayley. It was fun being with my mom. We actually had to do a surprise attack on the boys. I didn't tell them we were going because it would have turned into three days of "I don't WANNA go" whining. So I just let her pull up .. drive to gather them from friend's house and threw them in the car. Captive. It's the way to go from now on.

(later that night Jackson was telling his friends that "my grandmom's zoo is BEAST" I'm guessin beast means good .. and love that it's 'grandmom's zoo')

On the way home was a little longer than the trip back. Hayley was in the back with the two boys. She made them play the "quiet" game for money. Then Jackson and Eli started the inevitable fighting. I did get a pretty sweet video out of it though ..

Yes .. that's a plastic grocery bag coming out of his mouth. Boys...

Overall .. good day and we found a new favorite zoo ..
