On the Red Rocks 5K

My mom asked me to run this race with her and a co-worker.  Kaiser sponsors the race every year in support of Lung Cancer awareness,

I was going to do it.  I wasn't going to do it.  Changed my mind several times.  Wasn't in it mentally ... and didn't feel like training.  But really - when have I ever gotten a chance to do a race with my mom?  This was her first participation in a race.  I couldn't NOT do it .. even if I didn't train.

Sometimes I wish the competitive side of me would take a chill pill.

I dressed for it that morning and kept repeating the words "you are only doing this for fun Alana"  For fun.  Who does a race for FUN?  Apparently I don't.

We get there and I see 2,000 people with tennis shoes and bibs.  Brain did the auto focus from "fun" to "kick it"

Glad my mom had her co-worker there.  Because they said "go" and I did.  It was probably the most beautiful race I have run.  Red Rocks is gorgeous.  It was all on pavement .. the last mile 1/2 uphill.  Ending on the stairs.  Not a couple of stairs but a million.  Okay .. not a million either but my thighs said that's true.

Went ahead and gave it my all.  Was feeling pretty good that I stayed up with a girl that was clearly a runner.  How'd I know she was a runner?  Well .. she had the "look" .. plus when I was staring at her ass from behind she had the outline of depends on under her TIGHT running pants.  I'm guessing so she didn't have to stop to pee?  Stored that idea in the memory bank.  For something I will never do.

Rainbow striped socks this time.  13th out of 390 in my division.  I'll take it.

 she's so cute huh?

My mom finished.  Was super proud of her.  Got to meet her at the finish line since I ditched her at the start.

What made it all worth it?  Marshmallows dipped in chocolate offered after the race.  Uh-huh.  BONUS!

13th out of 390? Damn girl, you are fast! We don't have any races that look anything like that around here. And as for hills? I am constantly complaining that with all the hills we have around here, none of the races seem to make use of any of them. There's even one race named after a local mountain. Do we race UP that mountain? No, we drive up it and race on the top. Whaaaaaat???

Congrats to you and also for running one with your mom!

Epic .. it's not so much fast as it is wanting to get the race done. And I like the idea of driving to the top and running around it. Brilliant. I'm coming to live there. Where's "there"?
