Hayley went to her first homecoming as a Sophomore this weekend. This was really hard for me. I think because I remember my first homecoming and it doesn't seem like that long ago. If I can remember all the details of that night ... surely I can't be this old.

Aging. I try to keep myself young but it seems as if it's just slipping away from me. Mid thirties - still trying to hang on to my twenties. I think about letting go but that scares me. Then what? Maybe it's possible to continue to drink from the fountain of youth. So no, I won't let go. I am willing to do whatever necessary to keep myself young.
Then .. Hayley reminds me. By simply living her life and doing what she is supposed to be doing... She is growing up and there really is nothing I can do about it. I have tried to instill good values in her and hopefully she can make the right choices in life. But, if not .. I will always be there as her mother .. to try and not judge but to help her get back on the right path.
Her date, her boyfriend, Jacob - he's a good kid. She finally found one that I like too. He's respectful to me but more importantly, to her. He spends a lot of time over here and interacts naturally with the family. He actually bought her the dress she wore. I asked him if he would take it back .. his response .. "but have you seen her in it ... it's beautiful."
They had a good time. Pictures. Dinner at Olive Garden. Dance. Home right on time.
This morning she woke to Hershey kisses in the shape of a heart on the front door step .. with a trail around the corner that ended to a vase of lilies. Cute.
My heart is bursting for her. I am still young enough to remember the butterflies in the stomach ... the elation that only a boy you love can make you feel.
Keep growing up Hayley ... I'll grow with you. Who knows what the future holds ... it might just be magical..

So happy she found a good guy, and good job on getting her all dolled up!
She looks beautiful! Actually gorgeous! He is a keeper - dress, dinner, candy, flowers - you can't beat that. And he respects her. He is a keeper.
