First trip to the ER, 2009

It happens when you least expect it. I guess all trips to the ER are like that huh? Eli had been running a fever for two days. For no apparent reason. No, the fever has nothing to do with the ER trip. BUT yesterday afternoon he started running this stinkin' fever again. As soon as I give him Motrin .. 20 minutes later - he's up and movin'. Irritating actually. So I had given him a dose of medicine and just like clockwork he jumps out of the bed and off to play. The boys had a neighbor friend over that afternoon. (YES, I KNOW .. not a good idea to have other children over when your child has a fever. Got it. But guess what? I've stopped campaigning for that 'mother of the year' award long ago).

Starts with a pillow fight and ends in blood. How exactly does that happen? All of the sudden, Eli screams and is running upstairs with blood flying everywhere. When I mean everywhere .. really. I have no idea where the blood is coming from because at this point his entire face is covered. Remember I have this really bad aversion to blood. I will pass out. I had flash backs of Okinawa and Julianna coming to my rescue. There was no Julianna. Eli is crying .. Hayley is trying her best to help and I'm on the phone trying to call anyone I know to come help before I'm on the floor. Heavens, I even called the neighbor who doesn't like me .. she didn't answer. Go figure.

Finally he stopped bleeding so I could take a quick peek. I could tell he bit his lip on the inside pretty good. Then I looked under his lip on the outside and realized we were going to the ER. AGAIN. It was like 5 degrees outside and snowing. I tried to just take him to urgent care and they quickly sent us away ..

Emergency Room. We go to Sky Ridge hospital and I have to say they have always been so very good to us. They are also quick which I really love. Of course by now, we have made so many frequent visits they no longer need me to fill out paperwork. Sad ... they print off his bracelet and put us in a room.

When Eli calms himself down enough to look around he says to me "hey mom, this is the same room we were in last time". True.

Modern day medicine is w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l! The inside of the mouth heals quickly and they won't do anything about that. Ends up he bit all the way through .. nasty. Great news .. dermabond. Glue. She glued it shut. AWESOME!!

Off to another great year!
Oh, side note. Remember that January resolution to clean ALL the carpets? Well, I did it!! Last week .. completely done to include the stairs. Oh so proud of myself. Yes! I walked down in the family room today and realized blood was everywhere. Most of it on that beautiful clean carpet in the family room. It looked like one of those scenes from CSI. Right down to the 'blood splatter' on the wall. Nice. Guess I'll be cleaning those again next week.

Really...you could have called! I told you I am here for you, especially for injuries. Kind of morbid, but I really kind of enjoy blood. You better call next time, because we all know there will be a next time!
