Reconnecting...

Facebook has become quite an obsession for me. I love it. I feel like it keeps me young and keeps me laughing. Guilty as charged but I also like spying on all my 'friends' to see what they are doing. Is that called Facebook stalking? It can't be really cause it's all public .. right?? Another perk has been reconnecting with my past. There have been some friends whom I have kept up with throughout the years and then others whom I thought had been lost for good. Facebook is SO good at finding the missing puzzle pieces.

Some connections have been interesting to say the least. Being reconnected with old boyfriends has certainly been an experience. Emotional at best. Somewhat awkward. Rewarding is a good word to describe this journey.

A couple of connections have been really special to me. Two specifically are my best friends from high school .. Melissa and Amy. These were my girls .. the ones who I spent most my time with .. laughing .. crying ... telling secrets .. hanging out .. there's nothing better than a girlfriend. These two girls made my high school memories what they are.

I had kept in touch with Amy through the years .. she was in my wedding and I was in hers (although I was 9 months pregnant at the time - I remember having to tape my belly button down so the dress looked somewhat decent). Being in the military makes it hard sometimes to keep good connections. Amy is really good at this. I am not so good ... so really I give her all the credit for tracking my moves and making sure we stayed connected.

Melissa and I lost touch a few years after high school. It happens. I really am greatly at fault as I didn't give much effort towards the cause. Really I had no idea where she was or how her life had turned out to be. Fast forward 17 years. Facebook. Ta-da! There she was.... magic! What's interesting is that even though so many years have gone by it hasn't changed who she is a bit. She's my Melissa. Older. Married. More mature .. two beautiful kids. Still the same. It has been a really neat experience to mesh lives again. I am amazed at how much we have in common. All these years later.

It's pretty cool to know that if the three of us lived in the same place .. we would be as close as we used to be. Some friends are forever friends. These two girls fit that mold.

Here's to Best Friends Forever.
Thanks Facebook!
