The other day a friend of mine got me thinking about some of my possessions that I absolutely love. Things. Can't take them with me when I go but they sure make me happy while I'm here.
While in Okinawa we starting collecting Chinese antique furniture. I fell in love with this stuff and that is a surprise because I usually don't get into antiques. (I think they are old and smelly and who knows who's house they were in and if they were clean .. on and on ..) These antiques however fascinate me. Each piece has a story. Each carving has a reason.
I tried to collect some of the less ornate pieces. Simple taste. Simple girl. I know Okinawa is a part of Japan. Not a lot of Chinese there. So this cute little Chinese couple would go to China to find furniture and bring it back to Oki to sell it. They mainly targeted Americans as the Okinawans don't have a lot of money to spend on frivolous items.
Good thing I was only there for two years. I can imagine the damage I could do on our finances if left there a few more years to spend on this furniture.
