An afternoon with Travis

So I wanted to spend some time with my nephew Travis.

He's such a funny little kid.

Age 3 has to be the best age for saying the funniest things.

I had visions in my head about how our time together was going to go.  We would go somewhere fun like Chic Fil A or McD's with a play thing in it.  And we would hold hands.  And we would giggle.  And he would tell me I'm the best auntie ever.  And then we would go eat icecream.  And then he wouldn't want to go home to his mom.  And he would want to go home with me.

Right.

So I get to my sisters and say okay Trav ... where are we going to go?  "my name is "  So where are we going to go for lunch ... McDonalds ... "I wanna go to Target".  For lunch?  "yes" ...

Okay ... so Target it was.  You sure you don't want to eat somewhere else?

No.

Okay ... so Target it is.

He wanted to go to the toy section first.  No prob.  I started walking.  And walking.  And then looked back.  At that moment I remembered that my boys are 10 and 13 and they walk a little bit faster.  How could I forget so soon what it's like to have a little guy?

Want a cart?  No.  I want to walk.  Okay.  But a cart I could push you faster.  No.  I want to walk.  Okay.  Want to hold my hand?  No.  This is not going as planned.

We walked by the scarves.  "that's so pretty.  I like that"  I say to him.  He says "well.  it would look good on my mom"  I realized I had to step up my game.

Let's go to the toys and lets GET A TOY!

YEAH!!!!

We looked down ... I don't know .. ALL the toy aisles maybe 60 times.  Looking at every last toy.  Except for the girl ones.  He had a hard time choosing between three toys.  Spider man won.  After about an hour of the toys we went to the little food court.  What do you want to eat little man?  A slurpee and popcorn.  For lunch?  Yes.

Okay ... that's what we had.

I realized in about the first hour that I say the word "seriously" a lot. A whole lot.  Because every time I would say "seriously?" to him he would say "yes. seriously".  Made me laugh every time.

So slurpees and popcorn and pizza.

And then "I don't want this toy ... I wanted the other one".  So back to the toys we go.  Then we needed to look at electric toothbrushes.  And some candy.  And some coloring books.  And Travis .. maybe we should get Enoch something too.  "no .. two for me.  None for him"  He insisted this was fair.  You sure?  Yes.

I loved when we were walking around Target and he said to me "what's our plan auntie alana .. what's our plan?"

We had quite the good time.  He didn't stop talking.  Like once.  Like I mean .. not even once.  He chatted the entire time.  He never ran out of things to discuss.

As we were walking up to check out he says "I will buy all this for you auntie Alana"  Really?  How - you don't have money.  "here I'll show you".  As he just matter of fact-like walks behind the cash register to ring us up.  I LOVE KIDS!!!

On the way home.... he was in the back in his car seat ... pushing the window button up ... and down .. up and down ...
"I'm cold auntie alana"  "I'm hot auntie alana" "no I'm cold now"

He is simply the best.  I love living so close to family.

This is where it's at.

Oh yeah ... and he was cool with going home.

But I'm not a quitter ..

Well, maybe he hasn't figured out how cool you are yet, but he will. And when he gets to kindergarten he will be telling all his friends about how beautiful his aunt is.
